CUPE members & staff from the Social Services and Child Care Sector participated in LEAF's 25th Anniversary Annual Person’s Day Breakfast

CUPE members and staff from the Social Services and Child Care Sector participated in LEAF (Legal Education and Action Fund) Manitoba’s 25th Anniversary Annual Person’s Day breakfast held on October 15th.  Person’s Day recognizes the Privy Council decision of October 18, 1929, that found that women in Canada were to be considered “persons” for all purposes under the British North America Act.

The members are part of the RESPECT Campaign and one of the Patron sponsors of the breakfast.  The goal of the RESPECT campaign is to raise the profile of the work CUPE members do for people in their care and in their communities.  The Campaign received an additional boost when Tantoo Cardinal, C.M., Metis/Cree Woman, Mother, Actress, Writer and inspiring voice against violence, held up one of the RESPECT leaflets during her presentation from the podium stating the one word sums it all up, “We all deserve respect”.  Tantoo was presented with a RESPECT pin after the breakfast to help her carry on her work towards an equitable society.  Kathy Macdonald, Member Mobilizer says “the speakers were inspirational and their words certainly echo ours… every individual deserves respect for their work, their dedication and the supports we provide to society.”
